Dr. Dominguez is presently the Vice Provost for International Affairs, the Antonio Madero Professor of Mexican and Latin American Politics and Economics, Chairman of the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies, and Senior Advisor for International Studies to the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University

Dr. Dominguez attended Belen Jesuit Preparatory School
, he received his B.A. from Yale University
in 1967 and received his M.A. (1968) and Ph.D. (1972) from Harvard University
. He began his teaching career at Harvard in 1972 and by 1979 was a full professor. In 1983, Dominguez was disciplined by Harvard University for sexual harassment
of a junior faculty, and a graduate student. Following the incidents, several female students urged the university to permit them to "disassociate from faculty implicated in sexual misconduct". The university conducted a survey in order to assess the extent of the problem and establish procedures to deal with complaints of harassment; however it was not until 1985 that the university revoked tenure from a faculty for sexual harasssment.
