Political career

Kemmis first ran as for the Alberta Legislature as a Conservative candidate in the 1905 Alberta general election

. He finished a very strong third place in the hotly contested four way race.

Kemmis would run again in a by-election on October 31, 1911 this time as the Conservative candidate. He would defeat Liberal candidate J.F. Ross to serve his first term as a member of the official opposition in the Legislative Assembly.

 would see Kemmis barely re-elected to his second term, He would win the Pincher Creek electoral district by a slim 61 vote plurality.

Kemmis would be returned for a 3rd and final term in office in the 1917 Alberta general election

. In that election he defeated two other candidates in another hotly contested 3 way race. Kemmis would serve out his full third term in office and would not run again in 1921.
