Football career

Jacques arrived in the Portuguese top flight with Sporting de Braga, in 1979–80; his performances there attracted the attention of powerhouse F.C. Porto, still without Fernando Gomes, whom had left for a two-year "exile" at Sporting de Gijón

In his first season at Porto, Jacques topped the scoring charts at 27 goals, although the northern

Leaving Porto in 1985, barred by returned Gomes, Jacques returned to Braga for two more seasons, then played one year with Sporting da Covilhã, also in the main level. He eventually retired in 1992 at 37, after a couple of years of amateur football, with hometown's Lusitano de Vila Real de Santo António – also his first club – and U.D. Castromarinense.
