. He however attempted some portraits, and was sufficiently successful to encourage him to settle at Paris, when he was about twenty years of age. It was not long before he distinguished himself in that metropolis, and his pleasing style of painting portraits and fancy subjects recommended him to the patronage of the Duke of Orleans
