Izzeldin Abuelaish

Izzeldin Abuelaish, MD, MPH, is a Palestinian medical doctor and founder of the Daughters for Life Foundation.

Before his three daughters were killed by an Israeli tank shell, two of whom were decapitated  in January 2009 during the Israeli incursion into Gaza

This horrific tragedy did not harden Abuelaish’s heart; neither did it weaken his resolve to act for humanity. He continues to live up the description bestowed upon him by an Israeli colleague, as a magical, secret bridge between Israelis and Palestinians.

Abueaish has been an important figure in the Israeli-Palestinian relations for years, working in Israeli hospitals, and treating Israeli and Palestinian patients.

Daughters for Life Foundation

Daughters for Life, founded in 2010, is a registered Canadian charity that provides young women in high school and university the opportunity to develop a strong voice and play a more influential role in improving the quality of life throughout the Middle East through their education. We believe that every girl throughout the Middle East has the right to higher education and training. To this end, the foundation provides scholarship awards to encourage young women to pursue their studies at universities in Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Syria.
