Ilyushyn is a graduate of the University of Kiev (1988) and doctor of historical sciences (2003). Since 2004, he directs the Department of International Relations in Kiev Slavonic University. In the period 1997-2005 he was a member of the working group at the Ukrainian Government Commission for examination and evaluation of the activities of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists
