Both engines are the result of the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance, a joint venture among Hyundai, Mitsubishi, and Chrysler, with Hyundai’s engine using a different computer, from Siemens. There are 7 models of the Coupe based around two engine choices. Trim levels include: 2.0T Base, 2.0 R-Spec, 2.0T Premium, 2.0T Track (GT in Canada), 3.8 Base (For 2010), 3.8 R-Spec (For 2011), 3.8 Grand Touring, and a 3.8 Track (GT in Canada). The Track and R-Spec versions of 2.0T will only be offered with a 6-speed manual.

For 2011, the R-Spec models were updated with the new 3.8 R-Spec. To reduce the cost difference in the R-Spec and the Track models, the 2.0T and 3.8 R-Spec models don't include automatic headlights, Xenon HID headlights, Navigation system with 6.5" touchscreen & XM NavTraffic® (90-day trial), cruise control, Leather seating surfaces with Power Driver Seat & Heated front seats, rear spoiler, the upgraded sound system (600-watt Infinity® AM/FM/XM®/CD/MP3 audio system with 10 speakers), Automatic temperature control, Electrochromic auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass, HomeLink® integrated transceiver, Heated outside mirrors with turn signal indicators, Power tilt-and-slide glass sunroof, Metalgrain and chrome interior accents, Backup warning system, Chrome front fascia accents, Aluminum pedals, Aero wiper blades or Premium door sill plates , but the base MSRP is $26,750. Regional differences

While the Genesis Coupe that is released in North America will look the same as the Korean version, the suspension setup is different.

Hyundai Canada offers a proximity key for all V6 models, push button start or side-mirror marker lights on the 3.8L models and no spoiler on either the 2.0T or 3.8L V6. (US track models are the only trims equipped with spoilers). In fall of 2009, Hyundai began Genesis production with Navigation systems.

In some countries Hyundai Genesis Coupe will also be sold as Hyundai Genesis R-Spec, which comes only with 3.8-liter engine and features some sport-oriented options.

2013 Revision

The 2013 model received significant changes in both appearances and power train. The front bumper and hood received a styling revision that incorporates Hyundai's fluidic corporate design language a la Veloster. The V6 received direct injection and now produces 350 hp and 295 lbft of torque. The I4 turbo now produces 275 hp and 275 lbft. Transmission options are an 8 speed automatic or 6 speed manual.

In response to criticisms about materials quality from reviewers and owners, Hyundai significantly improved materials quality for the 2013 model. New features include a leather handbrake handle, plasmacluster air filtering, red leather interior option, LED accents above the foglights, and LED tailights.
