History

The school was the Humphry Davy Grammar School for Boys on Coombe Road until 1980. It then became a comprehensive school with the name Humphry Davy School. Princess Anne visited the school on 22 January 1999.The school was opened in 1910, meaning it is 100 years old.

Buildings

The school is spread between four buildings of which the largest building houses the reception, English, Physical Education, Modern Foreign Languages and Humanities

 subjects. The other large building caters for Science, Mathematics and Performing Arts, as well as housing the canteen. The two smaller buildings are the Technology block, and the Creative and Cultural Studies block.

School achievements

In 2006 a group of students from the school became one of the first of their age group to cycle from John O'Groats to Land's End. These students were: Dean Fry, Lizzie Weeks, George Hole, Nathan Sheldon, Amy Cuttle, Ellie Samuels, Matt Collins, Tom Freethy, Joe Chambers, Ollie Monk and Tom Pearson. Students from the school also won an MTV

 award when a video they created was shown on MTV accompanying Tom Baxter's song.
