. It was founded in 1989 with eight members; as of April, 2005, it had over 150 member hospice facilities.

The association is primarily based on volunteer efforts; in more than 400 communities throughout Ontario, over 13,000 volunteers have provided 630,000 hours of service to hospices under the auspice of HAO.
