Taxonomy

Hispanotherium was named by Crusafont and Villalta (1947). Its type is Hispanotherium lintungensis. It was assigned to Rhinocerotidae by Carroll (1988); to Elasmotheriini by Deng (2003); and to Iranotheriinae by Guérin and Pickford (2003).
