History

Hendrick Middle School is named in honor of former Plano Independent School District Superintendent, Dr. H. Wayne Hendrick. Dr. Hendrick led the district from 1961–1991. During his tenure, Dr. Hendrick oversaw the addition of 42 new schools to the district.

Students

The current enrollment at Hendrick is approximately 879, which is the third smallest amongst the thirteen Plano middle schools.

The ethnic makeup of Hendrick Middle School is very diverse. Caucasians make up the majority of the population (62%) but there is a considerable Asian student body (19%). The Hispanic and African American student population are approximately 10% and 9% respectably. Native Americans make up 0.2% of the school's population. The student-teacher ratio is 15:1. The foreign language classes have the highest ratio, with up to 26 students per teacher.

Hendrick operates on a 8:30 am to 3:30 pm schedule, which includes seven periods and a 25 minute break for lunch in the on-campus cafeteria.

 offered at Hendrick Middle School are many and varied. There are chapters of national organizations such as the National Junior Honor Society and clubs founded by Hendrick teachers such as the Book Club. Service organizations such as the Student Council coexist alongside clubs where students can have fun, such as Destination Imagine, where students are given an instant challenge where they must solve a problem within minutes.

Athletics

Hendrick fields six teams in five different sports; 3 boy's teams and 3 girl's: Football (7th and 8th grades), volleyball (7th and 8th grades), basketball (7th and 8th grades), and track and field (7th and 8th grades).

All Hendrick athletes are considered part of a JV program while many Hendrick students participate in varsity or junior varsity athletics at the High School they will attend.

Awards
