Geography

Heimberg has an area, , of 5.41 km² (2.1 sq mi). Of this area, 1.6 km² (0.617763453748056 sq mi) or 29.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while 1.85 km² (0.71428899339619 sq mi) or 34.2% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 1.79 km² (0.691122863880638 sq mi) or 33.1% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.11 km² (27.2 acre) or 2.0% is either rivers or lakes and 0.01 km² (2.5 acre) or 0.2% is unproductive land.

Of the built up area, industrial buildings made up 5.4% of the total area while housing and buildings made up 15.0% and transportation infrastructure made up 10.0%. while parks, green belts and sports fields made up 1.8%. 33.5% of the total land area is heavily forested. Of the agricultural land, 16.3% is used for growing crops and 12.6% is pastures. All the water in the municipality is in rivers and streams.

The municipality is located on the right bank of the Aare river, between the Rotache river in the north and the Zulg river in the south. It includes the village of Thungschneit which became part of the municipality in 1869.

Demographics
