HMS Eskimo (F119) was a Tribal-class
frigate
of the Royal Navy
, built by J. Samuel White
of Cowes
. She was launched on 20 March 1960 and commissioned on 21 February 1963.
In 1967, Eskimo deployed to the Mediterranean, where she visited a variety of ports, as well as performing exercises, and subsequently deployed to the Persian Gulf
during the tense times there. In 1975 Eskimo deployed to the West indies as W I Guardship; visiting Montevideo at the time of Argentinean sabre rattling. She accompanied the Queen in the Royal Yacht to America's Bi-Centennial celebrations, coming home via Goose Bay Canada to visit her namesake tribe. In 1977, Eskimo also deployed to the West Indies, performing a variety of duties that the Royal Navy still performs to the present-day (2004); in the form of Atlantic Patrol Task (North). Eskimo also deployed to the South Atlantic.
In 1979, Eskimo was placed in Reserve, into the Standby Squadron. In 1980, Eskimo was decommissioned, and the following year, she was placed on the disposal list. In 1984 she was cannibalised for spare parts for the three Tribals that were sold to Indonesia
. On 16 January 1986 Eskimo was towed from Portsmouth to Pembroke Dock to be used as a target, but was not used as such. In May 1992 she was towed from Pembroke to Bilbao, Spain to be scrapped.
