Gordon Lockbaum

Gordon "Gordie" C. Lockbaum, born November 19, 1965 in Media, Pennsylvania
, was a Jewish star running back and cornerback in NCAA Division I-AA college football.
Lockbaum was raised in Glassboro, New Jersey
and spent his prep years at Glassboro High School
where he graduated in 1984. Lockbaum attended the College of the Holy Cross
, from 1984-1988.
In 1986 in his junior season he was named ECAC Player of the Year, New England Offensive Player of the Year, and WTBS National Player of the Year. He finished second in the Heisman Trophy
balloting.
In his senior season in 1987 he won the Heisman Trophy balloting, finished second in the Maxwell Award
voting, and was named the Football News Division I-AA Player of the Year. He also passed for over 5000 yards which was a record for a running back at the time. He was a two-time First Team All-America selection, receiving recognition on offense, defense, and special teams. He once kicked a 75 yard field goal to cement a national championship for Holy Cross over Notre Dame in 1987. In the Heisman vote he beat out Tim Brown

He was drafted in the 1988 NFL Draft
by the Pittsburgh Steelers
in the ninth round, but he didn't make the team. In an unusual move at the time, he was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1999 becoming only the second player to play fewer than 2 games in the pros and make it to Akron, Ohio.
He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame
in 2001.
Lockbaum's son, Gordie Lockbaum, Jr., played shortstop for the Worcester Little League Team in the 2002 Little League World Series
, which made the US Finals that year although Jr. played more of a symbolic role as a first base coach and did not see any playing time in the playoffs. Gordie Jr. now attends Amherst College
, where he is a defensive back on the football team but has only played 3 minutes in his 4 years.
