ELGARD bowl

The ELGARD bowl is a football game played once a year between Glenelg and Howard High School. The bowl features the last three letters of each schools name in its title. Glenelg and Howard are the two oldest high schools in Howard County, and the winner gets to keep the ELGARD statue, a bull, at their school for the year. Glenelg won the Elgard trophy in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

School Spirit

Glenelg's school spirt includes the distinctive use of cowbells at sporting events, stemming from the high school's early history, when bells on the cows from the farm adjacent to the athletic fields could be heard during games. This is mainly practiced by the parents of graduating seniors on the football team or part of the Marching Unit.

Bands and Marching Unit

Led by Barry Enzman, Glenelg's Marching Unit and Jazz and Symphonic Bands have taken first place in all competitions for 34 years to date. Such competitions include annual and biannual competitions across the East Coast and in Europe. In March 2011, the symphonic band broke its own Howard County record by receiving all superior ratings from all 4 judges in the District 8 adjudication. The band was selected to march in the 1984 Presidential Inauguration Parade, but the parade was cancelled due to severe cold weather. Volunteers from the Symphonic Band regularly fill out Glenelg's Orchestra, Pit Band, and provide accompaniment for the chorus and madrigals during performances. Members of the band have appeared at televised It's Academic competitions to show support for Glenelg's team.

The Silks Squad is led by Diane Bissell-Hodges. The Drill Team is led by Terry Newsome.

Choir

Glenelg's choral department includes the Madrigal Singers, Women's Choir, Men's Choir, and Concert Choir. Led by Nancy Buckel, they have received Superior and Excellent ratings at national festivals for over twenty years.
