In 1927-1935 Gevork Kotiantz studied in private Art Studio in Pyatigorsk city, Northern Caucus, then in the Higher School of Artists improvement qualification in Leningrad, where he studied of Pavel Naumov, Alexander Karev, and Rudolf Frentz
.
In these same years Gevork Kotiantz has discovered the art of French Impressionists, in many ways changed the direction of its own creative searches.
In 1939 Gevork Kotiantz was drafted into the Red Army, he participated in the Winter war of 1939-1940.

His first participation in art exhibitions related to 1930 in Pyatigorsk city, Northern Caucus. After the second world war Gevork Kotiantz becomes permanent participant of exhibitions of Leningrad artists since 1948. He painted still lifes, portraits, genre and historical paintings. His personal exhibitions were in Leningrad in 1979, and in Moscow in 1985.
Gevork Kotiantz was a member of the Leningrad Union of Artists since 1957.
Gevork Vartanovich Kotiantz died on August 28, 1996 in Saint Petersburg at the eighty-seventh year of life. Paintings by Gevork Kotiantz reside in Art museums and private collections in the Russia, France, Armenia, in the U.S., Italy, and throughout the world.
