The current headquarters was the former location of Naval Air Station Atlanta

The air-to-ground surveillance radar system is capable of tracking moving ground targets from more than 150 miles away, and provides ground commanders with real time intelligence. In 2008 the 116th earned its 14th Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.

flies C-130 cargo aircraft carrying personnel and equipment around the world. In 2005 the unit deployed aircraft and more than 100 personnel to Karshi-Khanabad (K2), Uzbekistan for 11 months. During this period the unit airlifted more than 35,660 tons of cargo in support of the Global War on Terror.
is headquartered in Garden City. It provides theater command with battle management, radar surveillance, control, and communication capabilities to plan and execute combined air operations, and provide state authorities with a dedicated force ready to react to local emergencies.

The squadron is aligned under the 253d Engineering Installation Group (MA ANG). The squadron received its eighth Air Force Outstanding Unit Award in 2009. It also received the 2009 Outstanding Support Plaque from the National Guard Association of the United States. At the end of FY11, the squadron will relocate to Robins AFB, Georgia due to BRAC. The unit's motto is "Global Technicians, Anywhere, Anytime!"
