Moon
The Moon is Earth's only known natural satellite,There are a number of near-Earth asteroids including 3753 Cruithne that are co-orbital with Earth: their orbits bring them close to Earth for periods of time but then alter in the long term . These are quasi-satellites and not true moons. For more...

Impact crater
In the broadest sense, the term impact crater can be applied to any depression, natural or manmade, resulting from the high velocity impact of a projectile with a larger body...

Sphere
A sphere is a perfectly round geometrical object in three-dimensional space, such as the shape of a round ball. Like a circle in two dimensions, a perfect sphere is completely symmetrical around its center, with all points on the surface lying the same distance r from the center point...

Esnault-Pelterie (crater)
Esnault-Pelterie is a lunar crater on the far side of the Moon. It is located in the northern hemisphere, to the south of the crater Carnot. Esnault-Pelterie overlies the western side of the crater Schlesinger. To the south is the crater Von Zeipel and to the southwest is Fowler. The rim of this...

Gadomski (crater)
Gadomski is a lunar crater on the far side of the Moon. It is located to the south of the much larger crater Fowler, and to the west of Klute. This crater, like many features on the Moon, has an eroded outer rim that has been modified by subsequent impacts...

. Overlying the eastern rim and intruding into the interior is Von Zeipel
Von Zeipel (crater)
Von Zeipel is a lunar impact crater on the Moon's far side. It partly overlies the eastern rim of the larger crater Fowler, and intrudes into the interior floor. To the north of Von Zeipel is the crater Esnault-Pelterie, and due south lies Klute....

.

The outer rim of this crater has become worn and rounded by impact erosion until it has become little more than an irregular slope down to the interior depression. A number of small craters lie along the rim and the inner wall. An impact along the northeast rim, just north of Von Zeipel, has a relatively high albedo

Albedo , or reflection coefficient, is the diffuse reflectivity or reflecting power of a surface. It is defined as the ratio of reflected radiation from the surface to incident radiation upon it...

and is surrounded by a skirt of bright material. This is indicative of a relatively recent impact that has not had time to darken due to space weathering.

The eastern part of the interior floor is partly overlaid by the outer rampart and ejecta from Von Zeipel. The southern floor is marked by an arc of small impacts. The northern floor is more level and is marked only by a few small craterlets.

Satellite craters

By convention, these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater mid-point that is closest to Fowler.
