Flagmaster was mentioned prominently in a 30 September 2006 article in the Economist magazine on the subject of the new flag of the English county of Devon
. The article cited the views of Flagmaster editor Michael Faul.
Much of the magazine's content constists of material previously published elsewhere in other languages. Most of the illustrations in the magazine are drawn by Graham Bartram
, who also designs and lays out the magazine for printing. The centre pages of the magazine form a pull-out gazette for the Institute, edited by the Institute's librarian, Ian Sumner.
