, Berane played friendly games against clubs from northern region of Montenegro, but they played few seasons in highest football competitions of Montenegro at that time.
At 1948, FK Berane, under the name "Ika Ivangrad", made historic debut in Montenegrin Republic League (Crnogorska republička liga - 3rd Yugoslav league).
During the past decades, under the name FK Ivangrad (former name of Berane city), club played in Second league of Yugoslavia, too.
After Montenegrin independence, Berane made their historic debut in First league at the season 2006/07, but they were relegated in Second league (2007/08.). After one season in lower competition, club from Berane was promoted to the First league, but, like in 2007, Berane were relegated.
In June 2011, after one another season in Second league and play-off against FK Mornar Bar, Berane was promoted in the Montenegrin First League

FK Berane have several names during the history.

In the era of SFR Yugoslavia, club was named as "Ika" and "Radnički". After that, club was named "Ivangrad". After the broke-up of SFR Yugoslavia, town, and football club too, were renamed.
