. The EPS emerged from the National Union of Protestants as an umbrella organisation for evangelicals in the various Protestant denominations and organisations. Over the years, the Society has published a range of Protestant literature and a magazine entitled "The Ulster Bulwark". Its representatives have addressed meetings and services across Northern Ireland and beyond. The work is directed by the EPS Council, and the day-to-day work is undertaken by the Secretary, who also edits the Ulster Bulwark. Previous Secretaries include Rev Norman Porter, Mr Seamus Milligan and Mr Ray Pulman. The EPS underwent fairly radical change and modernisation in 2000/01, and, today, much of its work is media based. Its agenda remains unchanged, however, and, at a time of growing false ecumenism and a softening in evangelical attitudes towards Romanism, EPS continues to vigorously defend and promote mainstream evangelical Protestantism and to oppose the errors of Rome. The President is Rev W J Malcolmson, the chairman Mr Vincent Shortt, and the Secretary Mr Wallace Thompson. In May 2007, the former Treasurer, local Northern Ireland politician Mr George Dawson
