Eriswil is a municipality
in the Oberaargau administrative district in the Swiss
canton
of Bern.
Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 3.8% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.0%. 22.7% of the total land area is heavily forested and 3.4% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 17.0% is used for growing crops and 46.7% is pastures, while 2.6% is used for orchards or vine crops. All the water in the municipality is in rivers and streams.
The municipality is located in part of the Oberaargau
. It includes the village of Eriswil, the Gütergemeinden Vorder- and Hinterdorf, and the hamlets
of Neuligen and Schwendi. Schwendi joined the municipality in 1888-89 following a survey of the border with Wyssachen
.
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP
which received 51.6% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS
(15.6%), the local small left-wing parties (11.7%) and the Green Party
(7.5%).
The age distribution of the population is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 25.3% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 55.7% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 19%. The entire Swiss population is generally well educated. In Eriswil about 66.6% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule
