(Eʋegbe), which is widely spoken in the Volta Region and some parts of the Republic of Togo. Dzodze in the Ewe language means to land after flying. Dzo means to fly or jump, and dze means to land, give way to, or split. The people of Dzodze believe that, their ancestors landed in the present day Dzodze, and they are mostly peasant and subsistence farmers of maize and palm. They also distill local dry gin (Apeteshi) which is derived either from the palm tree or sugar. Dzodze has nine divisions. These are Ablorme, Adagbledu, Apetefe, Afeyeme, Afiadenyigba, Dafornyame, Fiagbedu, Kpordoave and Kuli.
Dzodze and Penyi together form a twin city joined by Dzodze-Penyi Senior Secondary School (DZOSSEC).
