This is the last Katatonia release with Mikael Oretoft. It is also their last release with Jonas Renkse on drums; on future Katatonia releases, he only performs vocals.

According to Jonas Renkse, Discouraged Ones sold roughly 20,000 copies since 2001.

Tracks 1-3, 5 and 8 were added to The Black Sessions.
