 and put his history degree studies on hold in order to participate in The Ultimate Fighter. Shoonover was often made fun of during The Ultimate Fighter, by Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

On the beginning of December 2009, Schoonover was called back to serve in active duty with the military but due to high blood pressure he was discharged.

, who subjected him to much verbal abuse throughout the season. Jackson's creation and repeated use of the nickname, "Titties", eventually led to Schoonover challenging Jackson to a fight at 205 lb, amongst other heated confrontations.

In the quarterfinals, Schoonover was selected to fight the lone Team Rampage fighter, Marcus Jones and was defeated via knockout punch. He fought again in the UFC against James McSweeney

After arriving at Ft Benning to undergo the army physical he was found out to have high blood pressure and released from active duty and sent back to the Individual Ready Reserve
