The village now has a population of 1,327 and is famous for Cullen Skink. In Ireland it is derived from the Mac Cuilinn, a native Gaelic Sept of County Monaghan, or from the O'Cuilinn Sept of County Kildare. The name seems to be related to Cullinane.
