History

The history of Correntes was begun by Antonio Machado Dias, a rich portuguese farmer, in 1826. Dias lived in the are where is Correntes nowadays and he commanded the building of a catholic church dedicated to his patron saint (Saint Anthony).
From that church, a lot of persons came to live in that area,what permitted the appearing of village of Barra de Correntes, which would become the town of Correntes.
