Condorcet (crater)
Encyclopedia
Condorcet is a lunar
crater
that is located in the eastern part of the Moon
's near side, to the southeast of the Mare Crisium
. To the northeast of Condorcet are the craters Hansen
and Alhazen
.
The outer rim of Condorcet is eroded, with a low saddle point along the northern wall and the satellite crater Condorcet Y lies across the northwestern rim. The interior floor has been resurfaced, leaving a level, nearly featureless surface that is marked only by a few tiny craterlets. The floor has a large dark patch in the western half, but the remainder is approximately the same albedo
as the surrounding terrain.

Moon
The Moon is Earth's only known natural satellite,There are a number of near-Earth asteroids including 3753 Cruithne that are co-orbital with Earth: their orbits bring them close to Earth for periods of time but then alter in the long term . These are quasi-satellites and not true moons. For more...

Impact crater
In the broadest sense, the term impact crater can be applied to any depression, natural or manmade, resulting from the high velocity impact of a projectile with a larger body...

Mare Crisium
Mare Crisium is a lunar mare located in the Moon's Crisium basin, just northeast of Mare Tranquillitatis. This basin is of the Pre-Imbrian period, 4.55 to 3.85 billion years ago. This mare is in diameter, and 176,000 km2 in area. It has a very flat floor, with a ring of wrinkled ridges...

Hansen (crater)
Hansen is a lunar impact crater that is located near the eastern limb of the Moon. At this location the crater appears oval due to foreshortening, but the crater is actually nearly circular. It lies to the northeast of the larger crater Condorcet, and to the south of the smaller Alhazen. The outer...

Alhazen (crater)
Alhazen is a lunar impact crater that lies near the eastern limb of the Moon's near side. Just to the south-southeast is the crater Hansen, and to the west is the Mare Crisium. The rim of Alhazen is nearly circular, but appears highly oblong when viewed from the Earth due to foreshortening. The...

Albedo , or reflection coefficient, is the diffuse reflectivity or reflecting power of a surface. It is defined as the ratio of reflected radiation from the surface to incident radiation upon it...

Satellite craters
By convention these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater mid-point that is closest to Condorcet.Condorcet | Latitude | Longitude | Diameter |

- Condorcet K — See Wildt (crater)Wildt (crater)Wildt is a small lunar impact crater that is located near the eastern limb of the Moon. The nearest named crater is Condorcet to the west-northwest. Wildt was previously designated Condorcet K before being named by the IAU. The crater is circular and bowl-shaped, with a small floor at the mid-point...
