The official population figure includes the population of Graterford Prison which is located in Graterford, PA, outside the borough limits. There were 2,000 households out of which 38.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.9% were married couples

In the borough the population was spread out with 12.9% under the age of 18, 17.6% from 18 to 24, 42.9% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 5.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
