Opportunity Class

Chatswood Public School also provides an OC Class (Opportunity Class), a class which is for gifted and talented pupils in years 5 and 6. Students must must sit an internal examination, similar to an entrance exam to be accepted in the OC class. The OC exam is taken around August each year. Chatswood Public School students sit the exam in Chatswood High School's hall, other children of different schools may go to specific venues in order to take their tests.

Camps

Chatswood Public School hosts 3 camps for Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6. In 2011, Year 5 are going to bathurst. In 2009, Year 4 went to Yarramundi

 girls wear a Winter tunic with a peter-pan bloused shirt including stockings and black shoes. Boys wear shirts (long or short sleeved) with shorts or trousers that include grey socks and black shoes. As for PDHPE, students wear a sport polo shirt as for girls cullotes and for boys, shorts. Everyone wears uniform depending on the weather.

Extra-curricular activities

The School offers many extra-curricular activities in which children willingly give up their play-time in order to participate in such Clubs, as they are known.
Just a few of the clubs are:
  • Robotics Club. In which Students program Robots to dance, in order to compete in the University of New South Wales, RoboCup Junior

     dance competition. http://www.robocupjunior.org.au/ Unfortunately, due to lack of funding directed at the Robotics Club, Robotics Club ended its last year in 2008.
  • Science Club. This has also unfortunately been terminated as the teacher in charge of this Club has left the school.
  • Public Speaking Club. This is taught by several teachers, Mrs Vicki Pagett, Mrs Julie Cockburn and Ms Pearce.
  • Drama Club. At the end of the year the Drama Club presents a performance to the School, as well as competing in numerous Drama Competitions.
  • Nature Club. Where Students learn and help restore the schools numerous gardens.
  • Chess Club. There is also a Social Chess session, every Monday at Lunch time. Social Chess is managed by Mrs Gail Baker.
  • Craft Club.
  • Art Club. This club involves students on Monday lunchtime to enter the art room and participate in several art activities. This is managed by Ms Gaby Franks.


In 2008, Chatswood Public School had their first 'Chatz Fest', which is a Short Film Festival. This year entrants were from years 3-6, while in years to come, it will be extended to 3-12 along with Chatswood High School

Chatswood has a proud music program, in which children can learn various instruments as well as participate in numerous choirs. The program has been awarded the Director General's award for Music Education. The School also has several cabinets full of music trophies and awards. The Ensembles are:
