Chambersburg was named for Robert Chambers, a founder of the area, whose family is memorialized by Chambers Street (which passes through the area). Robert Chambers died in 1865, shortly before the borough was created.

: The City of Trenton is home to numerous neighborhoods and sub-neighborhoods. The main neighborhoods are taken from the four cardinal directions (North, South, East, and West) Trenton was once home to large Italian, Hungarian, and Jewish communities, but since the 1960s demographic shifts have changed the city into a relatively segregated urban enclave of poorer African Americans. Italians are still scattered throughout the city, but a distinct Italian community was centered in the Chambersburg neighborhood. Since the decline of the Italian community, many newer immigrants have came to the neighborhood. Today, Chambersburg has Trenton's largest Latino community. Many of the immigrants come from Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Ecuador. The Puerto Rican population has decreased slightly but is still present in Chambersburg. These recently arrived immigrants have helped to diversify Trenton's Latino community.
