CECI has a reputation as an academically-minded secondary school. At one time the school was part of the International Baccalaureate Organization; however, that status is no longer recognized. The school has a strong reputation for its athletics, especially men's basketball, men's volleyball, men's and women's tennis, and women's soccer teams. It also has the only wrestling team in Elgin County

Central also has a very strong music program. The school has a Grade 9 Band, Senior Wind Ensemble, Choir and the Jazz Band.

Central's current principal is Mrs. Ruth Murray along with vice-principal Mr. John Paiserbek.
