. The population was 509 at the 2000 census. The village derives its name from the local Cayuga tribe and the lake named after them.

The racial makeup of the village was 99.02% White, 0.39% African American, 0.39% Native American, and 0.20% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.39% of the population.
There were 203 households out of which 35.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.7% were married couples
living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% were non-families. 29.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village the population was spread out with 28.1% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 92.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.8 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $37,679, and the median income for a family was $50,156. Males had a median income of $30,769 versus $21,667 for females. The per capita income
