The station consists of an elevated island layout
and side platform
. Both sets of platforms - including the supports - are made completely out of concrete, which is unusual; Platform 1 & 2 (island platform) has a large fibro building, while platform 3 has a smaller fibro
building. A large Metcard
ticket vending machine is located at the entrance to platforms 1 & 2, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accepts notes and coins. A small coin-only Metcard ticket vending machine is located at the entrance to platform 3, as well as at the entrance to platforms 1 & 2.

of the Canterbury Road level crossing commenced in early 1966, and was completed on 15 September 1968. The works involved the use of temporary track to keep trains running, and raising the station 6 metres. Services on the third track from East Camberwell was extended though the station to Box Hill
in 1971.
The station was one of four used for the first trials of the myki
ticketing system on the rail network, carried out in August 2008 by Kamco
staff. The other stations were East Camberwell, Chatham
and Mont Albert stations.
