History

Buttonville P.S. is named after John Button, a landowner in 1808 of some 300 acres (1.2 km²). Major Button was a supporter of law and order, who demonstrated his loyalty by leading the Markham Dragoons in the War of 1812

Facilities

Buttonville P.S. was officially opened in September 1991. A child care centre, Buttonville Child Care, owned and operated by Upper Canada Creative Child Care, is located at Buttonville P.S. The school also works in partnership with nearby Chapel Place Day Care. In spring 2012, there will be a sports camp and daycare located beside the school, as of school's property.

School Events

Buttonville P.S. has many events throughout the school year, including the annual Buttonville Run, Terry Fox run, Unicef "Trick or Treat" charity event, School dances and holiday concerts. They have many special days or events planned the Student Council, such as, Pyjama Day, Gum Day, Backwards Day, Red Day, e.t.c. Throughout out the year, there are special workshops and events for specfic grades.
