Brother Rice has received several popular academic accolades over the past couple of years. For the fifth consecutive year, Brother Rice has been named on the Top 50 Catholic High Schools in America Honor Roll.
. Freshman and sophomore students are required to complete ten hours of community service, while juniors and seniors are required to complete ten hours of community service per semester. Juniors and seniors are permitted to apply for a waiver for the semester requirement, and move all of their community service hours to one semester or the summer, if they receive approval to do so (generally if the student is involved in a large scale community service project).

The Chicago Catholic League's ice hockey champion wins the Kennedy Cup, an award that has been contested since 1964; the oldest high school ice hockey prize in Illinois. Brother Rice has won this award five times (1969–70, 70–71, 71–72, 75–76, and 2000–01).
