In the beginning of 2003, Brie started promoting songs in her own personal website and was already planning to release an album. The first song posted was "Go" (later renamed to "Go, Goodbye" and re-recorded for her first album). According to her, the song was about "two great people who just aren't great together" and along with "Invisible Girl", were the tracks that led Brie to sign a record deal with Universal Records

In late spring of 2004, Brie removed all the songs in her website due to contract restrictions with the record label and was in the process of producing new music for her first album.

Brie started promoting the single in a radio promotion tour and recorded live performances for AOL Sessions on October 11, 2004. Besides "She Said", she sang two songs, "Ugly" and "Loser In Me". A music video, directed by Chris Applebaum, was shot in November or December 2004, after the Thanksgiving Day, but a source say it was filmed on January 9, 2005. In December 2004, the single was available for download in iTunes Music Store, while the CD single format was released on January 11, 2005, same date it was sent to radios across the country.
