At the 2007 SAP Open, Phau showed incredible sportsmanship while playing in the first round against Konstantinos Economidis
. A ball that Phau hit to Economondis was out, but not called by the line judge. Economidis returned it, and Phau having seen that his ball was out, let the return go by, giving the point to Economidis. Phau went on to win the match and advance to the second round.
