After this poor campaign Sanhueza finished the loan with Everton and returned to Colo-Colo in 2001, but after he was transferred to Santiago Wanderers being unaffected of the club. In the 2001 season of Santiago Wanderers, Sanhueza was crowned champion of Primera División with the club; he played all matches and also he scored one goal. In 2002, Sanhueza made his debut in Copa Libertadores against Boca Juniors

, Sanhueza newly had the opportunity of play with Colo-Colo, the only team of Chile in win the Copa Libertadores and the team with most titles in Chile with 23. Sanhueza made a regular campaign with Colo-Colo, playing all matches and scoring one goal in the two tournaments (Clausura and Apertura).
