The school serves grades 9 through 12. Apopka High School also has a preschool available for the "Baby Darters" The preschool has a main teacher and student teachers as well.

Athletics

Apopka has about 26 total sports teams. The football

 team won the first State Championship in 2001. This marks the first such title for an Orange County Public School. The team also won the District Title in 2000.

2006

In 2006 the team won the 6A-4 district title by beating East Ridge High School, and the Metro Conference title.

2007

In 2007 the team won the 6A-4 District Championship by beating East Ridge High School 48 - 16. The 2007 Regional 6A playoffs began as expected with Apopka defeating Timber Creek High School

 30-22. Apopka then advanced to take on bitter Metro Conference rival Edgewater in one of the most hyped showdowns of the season. Apopka lost in the regular season 40-33, but this time prevailed by the count of 36-7. Apopka reached the 6A Region 1 final for the first time since 2001, and advanced to the State Semifinals with a 43-0 victory over Spruce Creek High School

 and Larvez 'Poohbear' Mars, went 10-3, losing to national powerhouse South Panola in Mississippi on national TV on ESPN U. They stomped on the local rivals in the season and made it to the third round of the playoffs where a loss to Seminole High School (who ended up winning the state title) ended their season.

2009

In 2009, the single loss (to Olympia) team made it once again to the state semi-finals against DeLand where they suffered a loss. They went 12-2 that season.

Trivia

In spring 1932, students were asked to choose a mascot for the athletic teams. Dr. Carey C. Womble proposed the blue darter, which won. Before that the school mascot was a 'Blue Devil'.
The school originated in what is now Apopka City Hall. In 1950, the school was moved to what is now Apopka Memorial Middle School, and then to its current location in 1976. In 2009, most of the campus was torn down and a new campus was constructed with the same layout as Timber Creek,Ocoee,Wekiva and Freedom High School.
