Apastovo served as the administrative center of Apastovsky District in 1930–1963, and again since March 4, 1964. Urban-type settlement status was granted to Apastovo on September 9, 2004.

Apastovsky Museum

The settlement contains the Apastovsky Museum, which was established on December 31, 1991 and opened on November 1, 1993.

The museum contains archaeological and paleontological finds in the area, including ancient tools, bone needles, stone hammers, a skull of a rhinoceros

It also has a notable nostalgia collection of the district, just as documents and photographs from the 19th and 20th century and an insight into the ethnography and every day living of the Kazan Tatars. It has a collection of embroidered and homespun towels and the reassemblement of a peasant hut.

The Tatar educator, scholar, and compiler of the first Tatar Thesaurus, Validi Zamana (1887–1932) is mentioned in the museum. The museum also a fragments of weapons from the Civil War and exhibits of the Great Patriotic War, documenting the trenches that were built from October 1941 to February 1942 in the Apastovsky area by hand in the event of a breakthrough of the German army.
