 schools within the organization. Although schools who were members of the CFS are affiliated with that group's provincial wing, the collapse of NSSAC left the DSU, ASU, STFXSU, and SMUSA—which are all members of CASA—without a provincial lobby group.

Talks between those four schools led to the establishing of ANSSA in April 2004. SMUSA entered the alliance until that fall, following a successful referendum. CBUSU joined in 2009.
