Albert Duncanson

Albert Gordon "Bert, Spunk" Duncanson (October 2, 1911 – March 24, 2000) was a Canadian
ice hockey
player who competed in the 1932 Winter Olympics
. He was the son of Duncan Duncanson and Elsie Back of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Unlike the rest of the Canadian ice hockey team at the 1932 Winter Olympics, forward Albert “Spunk” Duncanson was not a member of the Winnipeg Hockey Club
, but was instead a member of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Elmwood Millionaires
. In 1931, just prior to the Olympics, the team had taken both the Abbott Cup
, as Canadian Western champions, and the Memorial Cup
as the national junior champions, with the winning goal in the latter scored by Duncanson. Accompanying the Winnipegs to the Olympic ice hockey tournament, he played in the game against Germany
, which Canada won 5-0, and scored one goal. It was a shutout victory on the team’s road to earning its members an Olympic gold medal. He continued to play amateur hockey until at least 1937, including a stint in the Ontario Hockey Association
, and had a long career as in the oil industry. In 1998, two years before his death, he donated his Olympic memorabilia, including a sweater, skates and a crest, to the Hockey Hall of Fame. As a member of the 1931 Elmwood Millionaires
