Al-Masry was founded in 1920 after the Egyptian Revolution of 1919

The team began its Golden Era in 1932 until 1948 and won a number of titles and succeeded during this period to win the Sultan Hussein Cup

Al-Masry are arguably the only Egyptian club to turn professional in the 1983-1984 season and were from the first clubs to buy foreign players, the players brought were Iranians and were Port Qasim and Abd al-Rida Brzkri who led the team that season to reach the Cup final in Egypt before losing the match to Al-Ahly Cairo (1-3).

 since its launch in 1948, although Al-Masry is the team which is the most participated in the Egyptian Premier League after both Al-Ahly and Zamalek SC as it missed only two seasons during the fifties due to the repercussions of the Suez Crisis

Al-Masry formerly played their home games at its former own ground, but its capacity was too small for the club's support. As a consequence, Al-Masry built its own new stadium which is named Port Said Stadium
