Unfortunately for Gibson and the rest of the South Dragons, the club folded following their championship win. Gibson then signed with the Gold Coast Blaze

Following the 2010-11 NBL season which saw the Blaze just miss a playoff berth with a 13-15 record, Gibson has become a free agent although due to NBL rules, no other NBL club can contact Gibson until two weeks after the Grand Final series has finished (unless agreed to by the Blaze), although the Blaze themselves are free during that time to re-negotiate his contract in a bid to re-sign him. Gibson's form with the Blaze during the 2010-11 season saw him selected to the All NBL Second team.

As the end of the 2010-11 NBL season, Gibson has played 193 NBL games and is averaging 9.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game and is generally regarded as the best Australian point guard in the NBL.
