History

JeTran Air as an airline was established in 2005, through a fusion with already existing company Jetran Asset Management, whose crews were operating and maintaining MD80 Aircraft since 2003.

The company’s current fleet is composed of 7 McDonnell Douglas aircraft, Super 80 series, fully equipped with the latest standards, complying with all regulations of the EASA. Jetran Air has pioneered the Noise Reduction Advanced Jet Nozzle hushkit application for MD80 aircraft, being the first Stage IV MD80 approved operator in the world.

The Boeing MD80 is a quiet, fuel-efficient twinjet, very popular in the world. Currently there are 967 aircraft in service with operators worldwide, 521 in North America and 263 in Europe. Notable European airlines include Alitalia with 73 aircraft, SAS with 49 aircraft and Spanair with 36 aircraft.

Jetran Air Super Quiet MD80 aircraft offer a generous 31 inch pitch for legroom, compared with 29 or 28 inch at similarly operated Boeing 737 or Airbus 320 aircraft. The 2-3 MD80 seat configuration also provides more comfort for passengers, compared with 3-3 seat configurations, existing on B-737 or A-320 aircraft. In addition, the MD80 aircraft has a large cargo capacity of about 8-10 Tons on 3 cargo holds, to allow passengers to travel with more luggage than with other aircraft types.

Year 2008, Jetran Air flew approx 7,000. flight hours all over Europe and North Africa for various airline operators on Wet-Lease (ACMI) agreements (Jetran Air aircraft, crew, maintenance and TPL insurance included). The list of customers includes Aegean Airlines, Air One, Air Moldova, Alpi Eagles, Aurela Airlines, Blue Air, Italy Air, FlyLal Lithuanian Airlines, European Aviation Aircharter, Estonian Air, JetAirFly and others.

The company plans for year 2009 include the same 7,000. flight hours, of which one/third will be Jetran Air own-operated flights through Passenger Charter agreements. The Charter activity will be the strongest service Jetran Air offers this year, based on its largest available capacity in Romania for Charter operations, newly-furbished aircraft (interior and exterior), engines O/H by Pratt & Whitney, excellent on-board service and customer-oriented philosophy.

Jetran Air has the most experienced MD80 crews in Eastern and Southern Europe, with cockpit crew training performed in Swiss Training Center and cabin crew training performed in Sweden, SAS Flight Academy. The Quality system monitors and supervises the security and safety standards in accordance with the EU requirements for ground operations and flight departments.
