The current 65 Res Inf Bn was formed on 1 October 2005 during the reorganisation of the Irish Defence Forces, Army Reserve, the new battalion was formed in 2005 from the former 7th Infantry Battalion of the FCÁ

which was disbanded on this date and the entire unit was stood down. Then a new Unit was then formed up as the 65th Res Inf Bn in a ceremony at McKee Barracks. The 65th Battalion take part in many duties in the 2nd Eastern Brigade, from providing troops for ceremonial duties ie. 1916 Easter Parade, National Day of Commemoration as well as a lot of training exercises.

Locations and Operations

The Battalion is composed of the following elements a HQ Company, Three rifle Coy's A, B and C and a Support Company. The Battalion is spread across north Dublin with HQ and Support Company based in Mckee Barracks, And the remaining Three rifle companies posted in A Company in Swords,B Company in Navan and C Company in Kells. The Battalion is linked directly to the 5th Infantry Battalion who are also based in Mckee Barracks. The Battalion are highly active within the Defence Forces with members regularly attending exercises and training along with cerimonial duties.
