backdrop. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai aims to establish the concept of love within the conventional setting of an arranged marriage. The show is produced by Rajan Shahi, Director's Kut Productions' and directed by Rajan Shahi, Romesh Kalra and Sunand Kumar. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai named Dragoste dulce-amara in Romania premiered on March 25, 2011 on National TV. It has gained lots of populairity and it is nearing 3 years of run.
After some days, Shankari came to Maheshwari's house very happily bringing a new proposal for Akshara. Now on the day of holy (Hindus Festival in which they play with colours) Singhania's family came to Maheshwari's house to see Akshara. Naitik wants to talk with Akshara alone and during their talk Akshara being nervous of another rejection does not answer any question Naitik asks. Naitik asks Bhabhi maa permission to meet Akshara one more time before making any decisions. As Bhabhi maa loves Naitik very much, she gives him permision to meet Akshara.The very next day,they go to Akshara's house and this time Akshara answers all of Naithik's questions and they end up fighting on the issue of Favourite Hero and Heroine.However along with the fight blossoms love and they agree to the marriage.Rituraj who rejected the Akshara was Naitik's cousin. Naitik and Rituraj hated each other and by getting the full benefit of the opportunity Rituraj told Naitik everything that Akshara had first chosen him and that he had rejected her. This made Naitik furious and upset that Akshara did not tell the truth. Though Akshara had written a letter stating what had happened and how much she loved Naitik, the letter only reached him 2 Days after the wedding.During the Mehendi ceremony and on their first night Naitik taunts Akshara about the past and she gets very upset. After reading the letter two days later, Naitik understands and apologises to Akshara beginning their new life together.
Akshara finds it difficult to bridge the different situations she faced before marriage in the Maheswaries and after Marriage in the Singhanias.She is faced with many different problems and difficult situations which gets resolved. With the passage of time, Akshara had started to follow all the Singhania's rules. After sometimes Nandini (Naitik's elder sister) falls in love with Naitik's childhood friend, Mohit. Akshara understands their love and tries to make it a sucess.She tries to explain to Naitik the situation but does not suceed.After some time, Naitik witnesses Nandini and Mohit's meeting and the fact that Akshara was helping them all along. He tells this to everyone who get upst with Akshara. Naitik asks Akshara to leave the house and she does so on 15th January 2010. The serial in 2009 till that episode was considered the best serial of India and Asia.
After two months and many hard times, on Holy Naitik and Akshara resolve their problems and express their love after being drunk.Akshara goes back to her In Laws place and Nandini and Mohit's wedding takes place.In the Nandini's wedding, DaddaJi orders to Akshara to not cover her head with the Pallu.On the same day, Gayatri misunderstands that Akshara and Naitik wants to live separately. Akshara then explains to Gayatri and clears her misconception.Varsha gets Pregnant. Naitik thinks that Akshara is not giving him enough time. To make Akshara spend time with him, he makes it seem that he loves Sneha(designer in Singhania's Company)Akshara is upset and Sneha unaware that Naitik is married falls for him. When she knew about it, she resigns her job and Akshara is upset about that.On the special occassion of Diwali they solve their problems.
Varsha gave birth to a Baby girl who is named Ananya. Akshara now discovers that she is pregnant. She tells Varsha about her pregnancy and recalls how Naitik had told her that he was not ready for a baby.Varsha advises her to tell Naitik and she discloses the secret on his Birthday. Naitik is very happy on hearing that good news.Due to a misfortunate event, Akshara encounters a miscarriage.
Naitik teaches Akshara to drive and on one instance they break the car number plate. When DaddaJi investigates Naitik and Akshara lie. DaddaJi finds out the truth and seperates the house into two where no one in the family is to keep in Touch with Naitik or Akshara., One day DaddaJi gets a heart attck when there is no one at home and Akshara drives him to the hospital. She takes care of Bhaabimaa and Gayatri in the hospital.DaddaJi understands his mistake and the family unites.Shankari brings a proposal for Rashmi and everyone agrees with it. After a series of misunderstandings and Events, Naitik fractures his leg and feels that Akshara wants the name that she did all the work in the wedding.He does everything to go against Akshara and arranges for a wedding planner despite Akshara's request. The men of the wedding planner steal the Singhania's Things and Jewels but get caught.Naitik understands his mistake and apologises to Akshara and they get united once again.
Akshara gets pregnant again. Though she is worried after what happened the last time around, Naitik reassures her.Six Months later, Akshara feels that Naitik is neglecting her after she got pregnant and confronts him. He discloses that the Singhania's are facing a bisiness loss that thy have to give up their house. The singhania's pack up and leave the house sadly. However the Maheswaries arrive on time and request the Singhania's to saty in their house instead of a lodge. DaddaJi accaepts the offer.They celebrate Ananya's first birthday.Naithik sucessfully finds a new rental house and the Singhania's move there.They face many difficulties adjusting to the house. But they overcome it. On one instance Naitik loses his cool and the house ownwer demands him to oay a higher price else to vacate the house. kshara and Naitik decide on using the Baby's money to settle the problem. They have a loving couple as their neighbour.The Singhania's do a puja for the well being of the family.
Akshara's world consists of her husband, Naitik, her in-laws and her determination to do everything possible to make her loved ones happy! She's just a simple, educated girl from a traditional family and she believes in turning every situation into a positive, fulfilling one. She is naive yet adaptable to change and has adjusted well to her circumstances. She firmly believes that family values and tradition go hand-in-hand with being broad minded. She helps her sister-in-law realize her love even though love marriage is taboo in the family. She is a daughter to her in laws, who loves her own family but has learned to give priority to her in laws at the same time not to give up her family.
Naitik Singhania
He is pampered. He is the much-loved son of the Singhania family. Naitik loves his family and is rooted in tradition. He is discovering love after marriage! Though he has a sensitive soul and never hurts anyone, there is a certain pride in him for being born a boy! Male chauvinistic to a certain extent, he feels that men are privileged by birth and women are supposed to understand this. His journey helps him learn to love and admire his young bride despite the fact that he does not fulfil his fancy of his ideal woman.
Naksh Singhania
Akshara and Naitik's baby on its way. They have decided on the name Naksh which is Na from Naitik and ksh from Akshara. The baby will be introduced in January 2012
Kaaveri
Fondly called Bhabhi Maa by everyone in the house, Kaaveri is Mahendra Pratap’s wife. There is a big age difference between them. Kaaveri came to this house at the tender age of 15 and had to immediately assume the responsibility of mothering Mahendra Pratap’s kid brothers. She brought them up with affection and selfless love and even searched and got the best wives for the two. She is the most self less woman who has always found happiness in tending to her family members and seeing a smile of satisfaction on their faces. The only times she gets into bouts of depression and mood swings is when it concerns her daughter, Nandini, who is afflicted by Polio and hence still unmarried at the age of thirty.
Nandini
Nandini is Mahendra Pratap’s and Kaveri’s only daughter and also the first born of the family. A gregarious and lively girl in her childhood, her right leg got afflicted by polio at the tender age of six and since then she is either on crutches or bound on wheelchair. The magical world of books and stories always inspired her and she eventually wanted to become a novelist. However, thanks to the conservative household she was born in, her father thought it was inappropriate for her to study further as it would be a hurdle in her marriage. Hence she was forced to quit studies and was made to go through repeated and horrendous rounds of meeting prospective grooms one after the other and getting rejected repeatedly. While others sympathised with her and thought that finding the right groom for her was the only solution to end her misery, only Raj Shekhar could see the irony of the situation.She is married to Naitik's friend Mohit.
Mohit
He has been and is Naitik's good friend. Quick Thinker and Joker, Mohit fell in love with Nandini and though at first their love was opposed eventually they are married.
Raj Banna
Raj Shekhar is the second born son of the family. He was barely seven years old when his parents passed away, and ten years old when Bhabhi Maa came to this house as a bride. He vividly remembers how Mahendra Pratap sacrificed everything, including his college education, for the sake of his younger brothers and how Bhabhi Maa never let them feel the absence of a mother. An educated and learned man himself, at times he does not totally agree with the strict rules and regulations imposed by his brother but follows his orders nonetheless. Gayatri proved to be a good wife and an understanding partner to him.
Gayatri
Gayatri came as the second bahu of the house. Though a positive soul at heart and a good human being, she soon faced an identity crisis as a woman when she saw that everything in the houses was centred around Bhabhi Maa. She also realised that the only way to get a little ahead of Bhabhi Maa in this house is to gain brownie points from Mahendra Pratap. God dropped this opportunity in her lap as she was blessed with a son, an heir, for whom Mahendra Pratap was pining. Hence Gayatri got more importance simply by being the mother of a son, something that Bhabhi Maa could never be!
Rashmi
Rashmi is Naitik's younger sister. She is a typical dreamy eyed teenager who lives and breathes Yash Chopra movies. Everything in her life is filmy, all the situations are melodramatic. A little impractical and frivolous, she is a perfect antidote to her elder sister Nandini, who has lost hopes in life.She is married to Nikhil.

Vishambar
Conservative but loving, Vishambhar is the head of the Maheshwari family. He loves his family and will do anything to protect the interest of his children Akshara and Shaurya. Sometimes strict but ultimately understanding, Vishambhar is like a coconut, tough from outside and soft inside.
Rajshri
Akshara’s mother, Rajshri is a simple housewife who worries about her children and her household all the time. Rajshri panics at the slightest hint of trouble and is very coy and demure. Highly emotional and vulnerable, Rajshri loves her daughter Akshara more than anything and it breaks her heart when she cries.
Shaurya
Akshara's elder brother, Shaurya is a sweet and honest guy who wants to make everybody happy and have his identity as well. Shaurya is very protective about his family. Shaurya and Varsha are the perfect couple - always there for each other.
Varsha
Varsha is Shaurya’s wife. Varsha and Akshara were best friends in college, and still are, as their relationship as friends have turned into nanad-bhabhi. Varsha is a very intelligent girl and was her class topper throughout. She is modern in her outlook but keeps her traditions alive through her attitude. She is a very positive and optimistic person who always guides Akshara in all situations.
Ananya
The latest addition to the family, Ananya is Shaurya and Varsha's girl. She is much loved by the Maheswaris and Akshara has a softer spot for Ananya.

Vishambar's brother who doesn't believe in god.
Sunaina
Omkarnath's wife and second Bahu of the house.
Anshu
Omkarnath's son who is loved by everyone. Posessive of his sister Akshara when she was married off, but learned slowly that his presence will help the family be more gleeful.
Nani
Akshara’s grand mother is a loudmouth old lady who can be very hurtful and sarcastic. She is always angry about something and doesn’t believe in complimenting or showing love. She is a tough cookie and a taskmaster. She does care about her daughter and daughter’s family but will not acknowledge her true feelings publicly. She is very righteous and superstitious.
Dadi
Akshara’s grand mother is a loving grandmother who is sweet and showers lots of care and love on the family members. Her faithful companion is Gopi Daadi . She is very righteous and superstitious yet does not jump to conclusion and is always patiently finding ways to resolve problems. She is Akshara's problem solver and gives her tips on life and how to face it
Gopi Daadi
Dadi's best friend and companion. She knows Dadi better than Dadi herself.
Bhola
Maheshwari's driver who is treated as their own son.He is very faithful to the family.
Dhaniya
Bhola's wife who also works in Maheswari's.Their marriage was arranged by the Maheswari's as both Bhola and Dhaniya are treated as their own Children.
It is also dubbed in Tamil as "Uravugal Thodarkathai" and slotted at 6 30 pm on Vijay TV.

Summary
This story is based on a Rajasthani girl named Akshara who is the princess of Maheshwari family living in Udaipur. She spents her childhood under the great care of her parents named Vishambhar Nath and Rajshri. Her grandmother always advices her about the future and loves her grand daughter much than her own son. Akshara has a childhood friend Varsha, who always supports and stands by Akshara,and falls in love with Akshara's brother, Shaurya. Akshara SinghaniaAkshara's world consists of her husband, Naitik, her in-laws and her determination to do everything possible to make her loved ones happy! Male chauvinistic to a certain extent, he feels that men are privileged by birth and women are supposed to understand this. Kaaveri
Fondly called Bhabhi Maa by everyone in the house, Kaaveri is Mahendra Pratap’s wife. There is a big age difference between them. Kaaveri came to this house at the tender age of 15 and had to immediately assume the responsibility of mothering Mahendra Pratap’s kid brothers. She brought them up with affection and selfless love and even searched and got the best wives for the two. She is the most self less woman who has always found happiness in tending to her family members and seeing a smile of satisfaction on their faces. The only times she gets into bouts of depression and mood swings is when it concerns her daughter, Nandini, who is afflicted by Polio and hence still unmarried at the age of thirty.
Nandini
Nandini is Mahendra Pratap’s and Kaveri’s only daughter and also the first born of the family. A gregarious and lively girl in her childhood, her right leg got afflicted by polio at the tender age of six and since then she is either on crutches or bound on wheelchair. The magical world of books and stories always inspired her and she eventually wanted to become a novelist. However, thanks to the conservative household she was born in, her father thought it was inappropriate for her to study further as it would be a hurdle in her marriage. Hence she was forced to quit studies and was made to go through repeated and horrendous rounds of meeting prospective grooms one after the other and getting rejected repeatedly. While others sympathised with her and thought that finding the right groom for her was the only solution to end her misery, only Raj Shekhar could see the irony of the situation.She is married to Naitik's friend Mohit.
Mohit
He has been and is Naitik's good friend. Quick Thinker and Joker, Mohit fell in love with Nandini and though at first their love was opposed eventually they are married.
Raj Banna
Raj Shekhar is the second born son of the family. He was barely seven years old when his parents passed away, and ten years old when Bhabhi Maa came to this house as a bride. He vividly remembers how Mahendra Pratap sacrificed everything, including his college education, for the sake of his younger brothers and how Bhabhi Maa never let them feel the absence of a mother. An educated and learned man himself, at times he does not totally agree with the strict rules and regulations imposed by his brother but follows his orders nonetheless. Gayatri proved to be a good wife and an understanding partner to him.
Gayatri
Gayatri came as the second bahu of the house. Though a positive soul at heart and a good human being, she soon faced an identity crisis as a woman when she saw that everything in the houses was centred around Bhabhi Maa. She also realised that the only way to get a little ahead of Bhabhi Maa in this house is to gain brownie points from Mahendra Pratap. God dropped this opportunity in her lap as she was blessed with a son, an heir, for whom Mahendra Pratap was pining. Hence Gayatri got more importance simply by being the mother of a son, something that Bhabhi Maa could never be!
Rashmi
Rashmi is Naitik's younger sister. She is a typical dreamy eyed teenager who lives and breathes Yash Chopra movies. Everything in her life is filmy, all the situations are melodramatic. A little impractical and frivolous, she is a perfect antidote to her elder sister Nandini, who has lost hopes in life.She is married to Nikhil.

Conservative but loving, Vishambhar is the head of the Maheshwari family. He loves his family and will do anything to protect the interest of his children Akshara and Shaurya. Sometimes strict but ultimately understanding, Vishambhar is like a coconut, tough from outside and soft inside.
Rajshri
Akshara’s mother, Rajshri is a simple housewife who worries about her children and her household all the time. Rajshri panics at the slightest hint of trouble and is very coy and demure. Highly emotional and vulnerable, Rajshri loves her daughter Akshara more than anything and it breaks her heart when she cries.
Shaurya
Akshara's elder brother, Shaurya is a sweet and honest guy who wants to make everybody happy and have his identity as well. Shaurya is very protective about his family. Shaurya and Varsha are the perfect couple - always there for each other.
Varsha
Varsha is Shaurya’s wife. Varsha and Akshara were best friends in college, and still are, as their relationship as friends have turned into nanad-bhabhi. Varsha is a very intelligent girl and was her class topper throughout. She is modern in her outlook but keeps her traditions alive through her attitude. She is a very positive and optimistic person who always guides Akshara in all situations.
Ananya
The latest addition to the family, Ananya is Shaurya and Varsha's girl. She is much loved by the Maheswaris and Akshara has a softer spot for Ananya.

Akshara’s grand mother is a loudmouth old lady who can be very hurtful and sarcastic. She is always angry about something and doesn’t believe in complimenting or showing love. She is a tough cookie and a taskmaster. She does care about her daughter and daughter’s family but will not acknowledge her true feelings publicly. She is very righteous and superstitious.

Akshara’s grand mother is a loving grandmother who is sweet and showers lots of care and love on the family members. Her faithful companion is Gopi Daadi . She is very righteous and superstitious yet does not jump to conclusion and is always patiently finding ways to resolve problems.
