Xuzhou airport was opened on November 8th, 1997 with 20,000 sq.m. terminal building and 3,400m runway. Its construction cost was estimated $105 million, with most of the cost provided by the Xuzhou municipal government.

In 2007 it handled 414,057 passengers, up 38 percent from the previous year, ranking 59th place in the People's Republic of China .
