It is approximately two hectares in size. It lies predominantly on London clay

, and comprises oak woodland and grassland. It was originally farmed as pasture, and is a haven for wildlife such as woodland birds, insects and amphibians.

The entrance to the reserve is in a large area of woods and grassland, which is public open space, between Woodside Park and Totteridge

 runs through the public open space, and there is access to it from Michleham Down, from Southover close to Folly Brook, and by a path next to the pond at the end of Totteridge Green. A path north beside the brook leads to Darland's Lake Nature Reserve

Access to Woodridge Nature Reserve itself is by a kissing gate in a pasture area close to the Michleham Down entrance.
